I don’t know if you all realize this, but PLNU has a ridiculously talented student body. Last Saturday, Point TV held auditions for the Ch. 23 music show Acoustic Showcase, and we had some amazing musicians show up.
The first audition was Kaylee Daugherty, who performed “The One That Got Away” by Katie Perry and “Chasing Pavements” by Adele. Kaylee impressed us with her smooth voice and sweet, mellow guitar style. We shared a laugh afterwards at the fact that Kaylee and I both had “Chasing Pavements” on our Myspace pages. Yeah that’s right. Myspace.
Next up was Amy Nordberg, who performed three original songs for us. The first song was “Nowhere in a Hurry” and it immediately set Amy apart, with her unique voice and folky style. The second was an untitled piece and Amy referred to it simply as her “depressing song”, but we weren’t depressed. We were impressed. Amy finished up with “Love, the Antagonist”, a song she adapted from a poem written by her friend. If her second song was impressive, this one knocked us off our feet.
The third audition was a duo, Kenny and Haley, and they lit us up with their original songs and vocal harmonies. The couple started off with “The More You Know”, a song about “the internal expression of a relationship”, as Kenny put it. The harmonies continued with their next song, “Frantic”, which starts real slow and swells to a beautiful conclusion.
Last to perform was Christian Lindfors, a drop-in audition. His cool demeanor came out in his laid back guitar playing and his smooth, calm voice. He performed an untitled song that featured some impressive slide techniques on his guitar.
All of the Point TV crew had a blast at the auditions and the musicians showed incredible talent. But we could only pick two…
So who did we choose? You can find out by visiting our Vimeo page on (or after) October 22 to view the entire episodes of Acoustic Showcase.
